Here are some ideas to assist you to both get prepared for the next phase.
Ensure that it's the proper time. Unfortunately, there isn't any schedule that states when the perfect time is for a couple to move in together. It will be based on how both parties are feeling. Both of you have to be on the same page prior to deciding to merge your homes.
Determine the place you want to live. While it's easier to move into one person's home, for a lot of couples, it is wise to start from scratch in a new location. This way, it will always seem like home to the two of you, as opposed to his (or her) place.
If you do elect to move into one person's home, will the other person be comfortable enough to make changes? Anytime one person moves into the other person's abode, they will often desire to make it feel more like their home by bringing in their own pieces of furniture and moving a couple of things around to generate room for their belongings. The other person has to be able to sacrifice and permit the other one to make these modifications so both people can be content in their new house.
Don't rush when going through your belongings. When combining two households, you are going to have ample belongings for your new (or existing house). You are probably going to have two beds, two sofas, and many blankets. You'll likely both have bathroom and kitchen items.
You will not need to have double of the things in your new location, and that means you are going to need to look through everything to evaluate which you will keep and what you intend to sell or give away. Certain sentimental pieces will need to stay however you may struggle to decide what furnishings you want to keep. You may have to make that call based on which one is in better shape or which one can integrate into your house better.
Don't be afraid to investigate storage. Should you be seriously struggling to decide what to keep and get rid of, you might want to lease a storage area for the present time. This may also be helpful if you are considering moving into a bigger home in the long term. You might need the additional bed for guests when you are all set to get your next home. You might like to keep a few of your sentimental things in storage until you have got your man cave or she shack.
Go over finances as soon as possible. It is advisable to talk about finances before you decide to move in together. You may want to use a joint checking account in order to band together to pay the bills.
Then again, it could work better if you divide up the bills, having one person take care of the rent, while the other takes care of the electric, water, and other bills. You both need to be comfortable with how you are going to pay your bills prior to taking the next step.
Prior to when you move in together, you need to take the time and really go over it. You need to be sure that it's the best time for both of you. In addition, you need to determine if you are going to reside in one person's residence or start fresh with your new property. Then, you need to go through your things.
