The Dreaded Moving Delay
By Julie DeLong, A-1 Freeman Moving Group
Most people are wrong. Even the best-planned moves with quite possibly the most reliable and reputable moving companies in Little Rock might come to a unexpected hurdle and cause your household belongings to reach your new house a few days past the targeted date.
What Can Cause Moving Setbacks?
1) Climate
Zipping down the road in the minivan is not truly the same as lumbering along in a semi truck. Consequently, when the weather takes a turn, big rig drivers are the first to pull over and wait for factors to get better. This may result in anything from 30 minutes in a driving rain storm, to a few days if an ice storm hits on the way. Delivering your household to the new residence intact is the goal, thus occasionally the elements slows this down.
2) Street and Traffic Conditions
Summertime is high season for lots of things--among them, road construction, travellers on the highway, and traffic accidents. Freeways tend to be most crowded in July and August, so a minor fender bender can back things up for a few miles. Transportation authorities plan work and fixes during the warmer times, thus check your course for construction hold-ups and arrange for something to turn up which slows down the moving vans--if they're backed up and hit a substantial metropolis at rush hour, with a number of more hours to go, they may need to stop for the evening. None of us would like a tired crew maneuvering down the highway--it's not advisable for anyone.
3) Season
Summer is by far the most easy time for many people to move. Moving companies in Little Rock have finite resources--moving trucks along with workers. This is a perfect storm for your move to be delayed in the front end--if your team got stuck in poor traffic, weather conditions, or each on the job prior to yours, they might not arrive at your house on the appointed day.
If the delay dominoes begin to go down and affect your move, your move coordinator will advise you, while keeping you updated as they find out more regarding scheduling.
4) Logistical Surprises
Getting the moving trucks to your new house is not always as easy as you might have thought. If you're moving to an urban area with limited parking, that monster truck may not have a location to fit for several hours, and your belongings need to be loaded onto smaller trucks that can fit on the street. Conversely, when your new house is on an unpaved curvy mountain route, a large moving truck won't be able to navigate safely. Finding new moving vans and reloading them can add time to the process.
How You Can Manage A Delay
To be on the safe side, consider a delay on either end of your move. These represent the things you can do when it appears like your movers are not going to show up or deliver on schedule.
To start with, change your views on "on time". Professional movers in Little Rock advise you in advance that they will do their best to meet the planned dates, but there is a window--as discussed above, circumstances change and there's practically nothing that can be done if a storm creates a twelve-car pile-up leading to reaching the DC metro area at 5 pm.
· Let your realtor know there may be a delay in your departing
· Allow for a couple days leeway when you're eliminating your utility service--this isn't any time to not have access to water and Wi-Fi.
· If you will be boarding a family pet, let the pup palace know you will need an additional day or so.
· Book places to stay in your new town if you get there first or take sleeping bags and camp out.
Versatility is the key to handling any move, so if you are ready for what can go wrong, you're way less likely to have a predicament when it does.
